BRO-SIS is an initiative which aims to raise awareness about sexual health, drug and crime issues specific to the African Caribbean community. It also provides support and help for those affected by such issues.
The initiative is the first of its kind in the UK, and as the target clients for the scheme are young people, many celebrities have willingly pledged their support to BRO-SIS. The launch of the programme took place in August 2003 at a live open-air music event, supported by prominent African Caribbean celebrities and attended by approximately 7000 revelers
BRO-SIS employs a dedicated team of African Caribbean drug workers, criminal justice worker, support workers, mentors and volunteers to provide a grass roots level service to clients.
The BRO-SIS Substance Misuse Service offers free and confidential help and advice to anyone from the African-Caribbean community. This includes ex drug users, family members and anyone who may be affected by drugs or someone else drug use.
BRO-SIS is not just for people with drug problems and we won't assume you have one if you use drugs.
Help is available for all drug users if they want it, and we can also refer people for treatment if this is required. However we will not presume that every drug user wants treatment. They might have tried it before and felt it didn't work.
We recognise that support is really important for people who are ready to make changes to their lifestyle, and at BRO-SIS we recognise that lasting changes takes time. The journey will be rocky at times and you don't have to go through it alone. Why not let us help you on your journey?
